Something that stuck with me about 2.0 was when Mari and Shinji had that conversation near the end after she crashed through the shelter; Shinji fills her in on why he’s there and that he doesn’t want to pilot anymore. Mari, fresh off of doing a bunch of cool robot shit, losing an arm and being nearly decapitated by an Angel, says something to the effect of “that’s weird, I didn’t know there were pilots who agonized about stuff like that,” which felt like… as big of a tonal shift as you can have in Eva?
Her presence (at least in 2.0) was the “wow cool robot” part of that Gundam meme.
I was really confused when this dropped in my feed but nice to see that the new EVA pods are now free to listen for non WP+ members! They’re very good dives in to the films and feels decompressing if you’re coming off of listening to content around End of Eva.
