Oh my God.
That is like, the marianas trench of the uncanny valley
It’s like they hired me, who has never done any modeling, and only gave me the Sonic trailer for reference.
Hi, executive producer of Cats here. I did hire you to make Cats. This is my first time seeing the traile—WHAT DID YOU DO!?
The furry in me is furious.
YOU COULD HAVE MADE
SO MANY FURRIES
AND YA BLEW IT HOLLYWOOD
YA BLEW IT
This trailer legitimately made me anxious, which is certainly something lol
Holy shit that looks bad
I have this very distinct childhood memory of crying when my parents flipped to Cats on PBS and while crying saying “it’s terror” and I am super thrilled to report I guess I had not gotten over that experience as that was my same reaction when my wife shared this trailer with me.
I learned today that T.S. Eliot is partly responsible for Cats’s existence, and I just don’t know how to process that.
The anti-furry agenda’s gotta cancel out the gains made by Beyonce singing “Can You Feel The Love Tonight.” Those devils.
How could Andrew Lolo Baloney agree to this?
They gutted Be Prepared, so I feel like that movie cancels out any goodwill that may have been earned
Fun Fact: I almost posted that video but I don’t know how Twitter works anymore so I gave up and went with the fox instead!
Giant Bomb’s stream chat was full of people discussing the horrors of this trailer so I was planning on avoiding it but sadly the Twitter algorithm started auto-playing it anyway so I watched it.
Honestly, I was a little underwhelmed by the human/cat mix going on… it’s actually the CG on the actors movements that elevate it to being truly uncomfortable to watch. Almost every scene after Jennifer Hudson pleads with us to touch her at 1:24 is ruined by strange smoothing on the actors’ body motions.
My least favourite is at 1:36 when the protagonist-character pops her shoulders and twists her arms like independent undulating snakes.
Also… am I wrong in thinking the entire scale of this film is off? They’re meant to be cat-sized and yet they all seem much-too small in comparison to the world around them. It doesn’t help that they still have the proportions of people while being miniaturised so their heads are a third the size of what I expect a cat to have.
Overall: 3/10 very unnerving. Please, will someone tell Jennifer Hudson I don’t want to touch her?
It’s as if the producers live in a world where people were clamouring for a follow up to The Polar Express
I think I’ve figured it out.
The studio bought the rights to make an adaptation of “Cats,” but they didn’t realize they were buying it from the Paul F. Tompkins version of Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Haha, now I get it, it’s all a gag! Right?
…right?
This was always the logical endpoint of The Shape of Water winning four Oscars.
