So with Gundam Versus getting an actual US release (the last non-handheld console Vs game we got being Gundam vs Zeta Gundam in 2004), I felt like it’d be appropriate to give it a thread!
For those that don’t have any experience with the series, Gundam Vs as a series is a 2v2 arena-type third person competitive action title, it can be thought of as similar to Virtual On. Being 2v2, teamwork is vital.
Generally each team has a shared life pool, and the playable units have corresponding values. When a unit is destroyed it takes that value away from the life pool. First team to be reduced to 0 loses.
Gundam Versus is given the rather simple name compared to the rest of the series since it’s basically another reboot on the series, being one of the first games to not have an arcade version and instead be its own console entity.
The final game is going to have 90+ playable suits across 17 series, and 60 of those have been revealed so far!

The game also had a closed beta so we do have some views of the game from people that recorded it! It might be better to watch these to get a feel for it than the primary trailer! A few focusing on some units here:
I played one of the games at a Gundam con last year and I really enjoyed it! My girlfriend and I got really into the franchise recently with Iron-Blooded Orphans and Turn A Gundam respective. So, as long as Mustache and Barbatos are in this, I’m in.
I’m SUPER excited for this! I bought the Vita VS game mostly just to support the franchise in the West…it wasn’t actually a very good game lol. Really glad we’re getting a full fledged one now.
Pretty excited for this game, but I really want a new Dynasty Warriors: Gundam. We haven’t had any games like Virtual On come to the west that have clicked with me.
Is Gundam Breaker like a Musou game? Is it worth importing for that? Can I please just get a Mecha/Super Sci-Fi Souls-like?
i love gundam and i love videogames so i should be super hyped for this. BUT! i’ve always found these games to be intimidating as hell, as it seems that the meat of the game is competitive multiplayer and i’m certain that as a newbie i’ll just get hammered by more experienced players and have no fun.
if anyone wants to tell me that it won’t be this way, please do.
Gundam Breaker is like a middle ground between Versus and Musou, leaning towards the latter. It’s a pretty standard action game, but the big draw is being able to build and outfit your mecha by combining parts from various kits. @Xenosynth has a lot of dope designs I’m sure he could show you!
Oh, and here’s a QL I did back at GB of the most recent Gundam Breaker game!
As excited as I am about it actually coming stateside, I’m already dreading the lack of official music. Hopefully they’ll get a few tracks or at least have the import feature like the PS3 ones.
I can’t wait for Gundam Versus! It’s wild how far the series has come since they moved on from Capcom’s Federation VS Zeon engine. I hope they have a cool mission mode like Gundam VS Gundam Next Plus, too.
I’d like to be hopeful but they don’t have a great track record on this. International rights are stupid complicated, and with Extreme VS Full Boost while there was an extended soundtrack edition, it was exclusive to Japan (the regular game had an Asia release).
One of my highlights of the year I went to EVO was watching the gundam versus side tournament, it ruled to watch people who were super good like that, in the corner of a ballroom.
