The Future of EA Sports Is Storytelling

What Telltale did for the adventure game, EA wants to do for the sports narrative.

Yeah, this trend really interests me. With a lot of these sports games, they’ve really perfected the gameplay over so many iterations that there’s not always much variation from one release to the next. Adding in more narrative-focused campaigns let’s the developers breathe new life into their series’ and give each game more of a unique identity. This of course assumes that they don’t also eventually settle on a formula for the storytelling as well.

Great piece. I was surprised at how much I liked Longshot even though I know nothing about American football. When I was asked questions like “who’s the hot receiver on this play” it was like hearing a foreign language.

Just wanted to flag I wrote something on this too over at cbc.ca, including some comments from forums posters right here: http://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/madden-nfl-18-sports-story-modes-1.4261248
