What’s good internet? Inspired by Wazanator’s recent comment, I thought I’d get a general discussion thread started for our favorite five star podcast, Waypoint Radio! Feel free to post your thoughts about the show, drop links to episodes and clips you like, or give us a searing take on the latest ad read!
I will never not love the slow building storyline of Patrick and Rob becoming more and more passive aggressive to each other. Rob is like “if you’re using matches, you’re weak” after Patrick talked about using matches for five minutes in Amnesia. (Maybe it isn’t even all that passive.)
Like in most cases, Rob was right! I don’t think the game teaches this well enough, but you’re supposed to save your matches for certain sections that become more prevalent as the game progresses!
This is probably my favourite slow building storyline, Rob always having a slightly hotter take than everyone else but somehow never being burned. If you’re not playing it safe, sooner or later you’re bound to step in it, but he hasn’t yet, and the tension is killing me!
The segment on Watchdogs on today’s pod, despite being overall negative on the game, has me intrigued. The setting being in London and the protagonists being randos is giving me ZombiU vibes. Is there any strain of that game here or am I reading too much into it?
EDIT: The talk about Deus Ex: Mankind Divided near the end of the pod has me excited to hear the crew’s thoughts if they actually play it. I wrote down some thoughts about it at release, but I recall at the time no one else sharing my enthusiasm for the game. Really hope it gets a second look by the internet discourse, because it really deserved better.
There’s a cutscene playlist of ace combat zero through 7 on YouTube and it has been taking up my nights. Definitely recommend it! Surprisingly good content
Paraphrased Gita giving me a huge grin right now: “I wonder if you’re having a bit of a werewolf situation, like you’ve been bit by a rabid 4k tv, but you still have time before the change is permanent”
That was a pretty good joke. I do wonder, however, if Patrick’s 4K conversion isn’t just from having a new and nicer TV. Irrespective of resolution, modern screens are way better at displaying color and all around look sharper at even sub-4K resolutions than their mid-2000s predecessors.
Yeah, I upgraded from a 1080 TN to a higher-refresh 1080 IPS recently. I kind of regret not going straight to 1440, but even without changing the resolution at all there was an immediately noticeable difference in image quality. There definitely have been improvements in the world of display panels beyond simply cramming more pixels in.
A number of years back, we went from an old 1080p LCD to a newer 1080p plasma, and there’s nothing like really good contrast to make a TV look great. I think Patrick has mentioned what a difference HDR makes when a game or video is made for it, so it might be an HDR werewolf.
